Lisa Hanes Therapy

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Registered Nurse, Certified Nurse Midwife

Welcome

Welcome—and thank you for being here!

With a background that bridges the worlds of medicine and psychology, I bring a deeply informed and compassionate approach to therapy. Before becoming a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I spent many years working as a Registered Nurse and Certified Nurse Midwife. This experience continues to shape my perspective, grounding my work in both clinical insight and emotional understanding.

Now in private practice in Los Angeles, I offer customized therapy for individuals, couples, and families. Depending on your needs, our work together can be short-term and solution-focused or part of a longer-term process. I provide sessions in person, through secure home visits, or via a confidential telehealth platform. I also facilitate evidence-based workshops—including Partnering to Parenting and Bringing Baby Home—to support families through important transitions with clarity, empathy, and care.

Thank you for being here!

As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with prior clinical experience as both a Registered Nurse and Certified Nurse Midwife, I bring a comprehensive understanding of the mind-body connection to my work. My professional background includes training and experience at leading institutions such as the University of Pennsylvania, Johns Hopkins, NYU, Mount Sinai in New York City, and Saint John’s in Los Angeles. This integrative foundation allows me to support the whole person—recognizing that emotional, psychological, and physical health are profoundly interconnected.

In our work together, I aim to help you identify and shift patterns that may be contributing to distress or limiting personal growth. Whether you are navigating fear, confusion, emotional pain, or a major life transition, I strive to create a therapeutic environment grounded in clarity, self-compassion, and purpose. My role is to walk alongside you as you move toward a more resilient, meaningful, and fulfilling life.

Theoretical approaches I draw from include, but are not limited to: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Psychodynamic Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Mindfulness-Based approaches, Narrative Therapy, the Gottman Method, and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT).

All therapy is currently offered through a secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform.
